What made you decide to contest in school committee elections?

 I am actually a member of the school committee, I was appointed unanimously by the school board, because there was a vacancy, so I am currently in the board, what initially drove me to run for school committee was that I wanted the board to be more inclusive, and I didn't think that the school committee itself was diverse enough. Now that I am there, and have 6 month of experience, I would like to have a opportunity to keep doing the work I am doing. 

Can you describe your experience as a student and how it shaped your vision?

 I grew up in New Orleans, I didn't grow up in Sharon, but as a Student, my teachers and my family were always very supportive of me. Education was always very important in my family. My mother always instilled in me that education was a way to improve your circumstances in life. So when I went to school, I worked hard because my family instilled in me that it was the right thing to do. I was also fortunate to have great teachers who believed in me and saw promise in me. 

 What (if any) changes would you make if you are elected and how will it impact students of SPS?

 Some of the changes I would like to see are thing that have to do with how school students are doing academically. There is data that shows as a school district that some school students are not doing as well as they should be. What I would like the new superintendent to do take a look at this and see how we best address that. I think we need to give students the tools to learn. One more thing that needs to be implemented is inclusiveness. It is important to me that we leverage the diversity of the town, that we treat each other with respect. One last thing we need it transparency. I think we as a school committee should be very transparent to the town residents about how we are spending our money to best educate their kids. I we focus on how we spend our money, maybe there will be additional innovative things that are there.
